At least, I doubt we are. There's no way the universe is this MASSIVE and we're somehow the only people/lifeforms around.
Which begs the question (in the immortal words of Lt. Commander Data):
Life forms...
You tiny little life forms...
You precious lit-tle life forms...
Where. Are. YOU!?

Well I sure as heck don't know. But maybe Boston.com's merging of religion and science will lend some clues.
(My apologies if the wording is a little off in the quote above, or if i'm +/- one or two "boops." Blame it on the caffeine.)
Oh, and sidenote: They have a mood for "exanimate" but they don't have a mood for "caffeinated"? And no quibbling..."awake" is not the same thing.
And another sidenote (again, blame the caffeine): I LOVE that the icon for "geeky" has my fox looking at an iMac :-D.
